If you use a PS3 or XBox360, you can pass the audio signal through the component cables. With this adapter, you can plug in computer speakers or headphones into your console.

I have a DELL U2410, but no TV--as I don't have the space in my apartment for one. Due to that issue, for playing my gaming consoles, I ended up using component cables to connect my ps2 and for the left and right audio, plug into this RCA female to 3.5 female Adapter. It does work well, without me needing to turn on my computer for audio to plug my audio into an RCA female to a 3.5 male Adapter--I can just filter the sound directly to my pc speakers...
However, I seem to only get audio from one speaker. Normally, I'd be severely annoyed by this, but as I have good speakers, it's tolerable.

Been using this for my Playstation 3 for the past 3-4 months. The headphones work but the plug just doesn't feel right when you plug it in. It is worth the couple of bucks I paid for it though.

I wanted to use my PS3, but the audio on my TV was broken. Even though both the on-board speakers and the headphone jack were broken, I was able to use this product to connect directly with the RCA cables supplied with my game system. I'm using a pair of headphones without native volume control, so I need an additional attachment. This little adapter saved me a lot of trouble of getting sound out of my PS3. I don't have a TV, but my computer has a 1080p HD monitor. So I had a way to get video, but not sound. Just popped the red and white RCA cables that came with the system, and my speakers through the other end, problem solved. If you want to hook up your PS3 to your computer I highly recommend this product.
