Too Small for Jack, Does Not Work July 13, 2010 Adds The title pretty much says it all folks. This adapter is too small for my laptop's 3.5 mm jack, I had to keep it held into the jack for audio to work, otherwise as soon as I let go audio stopped. Did not work on my Macbook Pro. Picked up another brand, works great now.

just what I wanted June 24, 2010 It's just what I needed for my Mac optical ports. Make sure that you order enough-they sell them individually so, I had to order them twice to get enough.
Works as described May 4, 2010 Chris (Indianapolis, IN USA) Works well and as described. Easily fits on to a standard toslink cable and fits into my mini toslink/audio out macbook port. Would be nice if this came with a cap that fit to keep out dust when not being used.
100% functional and as cheap as it gets (sans shipping costs) April 25, 2010 That One Dude This adapter works great. All you need to do is attach it to one end of a basic optical cable, then plug the cable end with the adapter into your laptop and the other end into the optical input on your receiver. Make sure you go into your receiver settings and assign the input you plugged it into as digital, and make sure that's what your receiver is set to whenever you want the laptop audio to come out of the receiver.
The hardest part is figuring out how to get your laptop sound configured right so the audio comes out of your receiver. Good luck with that part...
The only negative about this adapter is that no major electronics retailer carries it. It cost me about 300 times more than the actual price of the adapter to ship it from the manufacturer. Places that carry this kind of part are increasing exclusively online these days.
